Module 1002: Exploration of Embroidery for Haute Couture Fashion

£850.00
Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

Location: Via Zoom

Duration: Weekly 3 hour sessions

Haute couture embroidery craftsmanship and artistic expression in the realm of fashion explore the finest and most technically advanced levels of hand stitching. This beautiful artform elevates garments by adding crystal work detailing and beading using a Tambour (Luneville) Hook transforming fabrics into works of breath taking quality.

This unit will teach you how to develop a design fitted to a pattern piece and add textural depth through material selection as you push the boundaries of metal threads, silks and beads. You will learn the mechanics of creating pieces with a Tambour Hook working from the underside of the fabric to attach crystals and beads as you develop and craft your own surface embellishment.

Entry Requirements:  No formal qualifications are required for joining the course, but those who have never embroidered before are encouraged to attend at least one Hand & Lock online course first.

Each of our Diploma units has a bespoke design brief to help you begin to craft your design ideas. *Disclaimer: The amount of inspiration you take from the brief is up to you, the brief is designed as a guide to assist you in starting the design process and can be taken in any direction you desire as long as it is explained.

The Hand & Lock Diploma’s ‘Embroidery for Haute Couture Fashion’ module invites participants to immerse themselves in the timeless and intricate world of Abstract Renaissance artistry. This thematic exploration encourages artisans to craft their own embroidery piece inspired by the classical elegance and cultural richness of the Renaissance period.

Participants are encouraged to delve into the opulent visual language of this historical period, drawing inspiration from iconic artists, architectural marvels, and the nuanced hues that defined the Renaissance aesthetic.

The design process should begin with a thoughtful exploration of the chosen elements within the theme of this unit, Abstract Renaissance. Consider incorporating motifs reminiscent of the works of Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, or Raphael. Architectural elements such as ornate columns, celestial motifs, and classical statuary can also play a significant role in shaping the embroidery narrative. The colour palette for your hand embroidery piece should mirror the richness and sophistication of Renaissance art. From the earthy tones of sienna and ochre to the deep blues and reds reminiscent of royal attire, participants are encouraged to experiment with an array of thread colours, bringing to life the palette that defined this golden age of artistic expression.

As artisans embark on this creative endeavour, they are urged to employ various embroidery techniques to echo the intricate details found in Renaissance masterpieces. Whether it be fine satin stitches to replicate the delicate folds of garments or meticulous goldwork to evoke the opulence of the era, the choice of techniques should align with the overall design concept.
