Discover the world of bespoke hand embroidery in Britain's oldest embroidery house with Hand & Lock’s Studio Tour.

Join us for an exclusive guided tour at Hand & Lock, where you'll gain access to areas of our studio that are typically off-limits to the public. Explore our newly refurbished space and delve into the history of Hand & Lock, while learning about the ancient embroidery techniques we still employ today.

During the tour, you will be shown key pieces from our on-site archive, including notable works created for the British Royal Family and the British Military. You'll have the unique opportunity to handle samples from the embroidery worn by Penny Mordaunt and Queen Camilla during the Coronation of King Charles III, as our experts explain our vital role in ceremonial British life.

Your journey will take you through our various departments, including Hand Embroidery, Digital Embroidery, and Irish Machine Embroidery. You'll witness the intricate process of crafting bespoke embroidery and metalwork, with opportunities for hands-on experiences in our sample archive.

In addition to our rich military and royal heritage, your guide will highlight our collaborations with renowned brands such as Burberry, Christian Dior, and Louis Vuitton. This immersive experience promises to deepen your appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship behind our celebrated work.

We also offer private tours for groups. The tour can be tailored and created bespoke to your requirements. See our booklet for more information here.

'Thank you for your fascinating talk and tour of your workshops yesterday.  Everyone was in awe of the work done. I may book another tour in a few months as one of the ladies who is a keen patchworker and crafter had to cancel at the last minute as she had an operation last week; she is so disappointed that she couldn't come. As one lady said (also a keen crafter) - that was the best tour we have ever done. Thanks to all your ladies who put up with our questioning.' - Susan, NHS Fellowship

'Freya was a very knowledgeable guide and personable and we all had a happy and rewarding time'

'Thank you so much for a really interesting talk and walk around of Hand and Lock.  We were all so impressed by the incredible skill of the needlework samples and also the braiding work on the military uniforms.  You certainly cover a huge range of everything that can have embroidery put on to it.' - Carol

'Wonderful display of embroidered items and a great talk. It was a very enjoyable visit and the talk was interactive making it that much more fun with lots of examples and also stories of the company's varied clientele. We visited another floor of the building to see the embroidery machines in use - but for me the insight into a truly skilled art was really special. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the visit.' - London Appreciation Society

'Can I just say a big thank to you for organising our visit yesterday. I have had nothing but positive feedback, everyone loved it and are in awe of your talented team. Would you please pass on our thanks to Freya, for her talk and presentation which was excellent. I have a waiting list and would possibly organise another visit later in the year.' - NHS Retirement Fellowship Kingston
