A graduate of the RCA, Tom began freelancing as a hand embroiderer for London based designers and as a digital embroiderer for a number of textile companies. He then went on to work for an embroidery house based between Mumbai and Rome developing embroideries with luxury fashion brands such as Gucci, Valentino and Alexander McQueen. Here Tom honed his skills in embroidery sampling, design & creating technical plans and specifications for fashion production.
In amongst this work, In 2021 Tom launched his own unisex clothing brand ‘Costello Studio’ which specialises in contemporary, graphic & highly refined digitally embroidered pieces. Tom is a working practitioner in the world of fashion embroidery and can regularly be found working on commissions and freelancing for clients alongside his own business! Recent freelance work includes developing digital embroideries for Bethany Williams AW22 collection.
Hand & Lock is honoured to be able to bring Tom’s expertise within digital embroidery for fashion to the Hand & Lock school for embroidery. There is currently no other digital embroidery course on the market that showcases a comprehensive itinerary specifically for creative digital machine embroidery for fashion.
