Freya's journey in the world of embroidery is rooted in her early passion for the craft, nurtured by her mother. This love for stitching led her to pursue formal training at the prestigious Royal School of Needlework, where she graduated in 2023 with a First Class Honour degree in Hand Embroidery. During her studies, Freya mastered a wide range of techniques, including Goldwork, Tambour Beading, and Silk Shading, among many others.

Freya's skills have been recognized by some of the most respected names in fashion, having worked with luxury fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen and Erdem. Her expertise has also been sought after in the film industry, where she contributed to the intricate costumes for films like Wicked.

Now a valued member of the Hand & Lock team, Freya is passionate about passing on her embroidery skills to students. Known for her keen eye for detail and her innovative approach, she enjoys experimenting with different techniques to create unique and contemporary embroidery designs. Working closely with Lucy, the Head of Education at Hand & Lock, Freya and the education team are dedicated to keeping the art of embroidery alive, offering contemporary classes that blend traditional skills with modern, colorful designs.

Fun Fact: She won an art competition when she was 8 years old, the brief was to create an afternoon tea fit for the queen. She made a red, white and blue tea set out of clay and got to go and see the queen!
