Couture Butterflies - 2 Day Course

Length of Session: 2 full day sessions

This gorgeous 2 day course is designed to introduce budding embroiderers to a selection of techniques we use here at Hand & Lock and in the world of couture embroidery. Exploring hand embroidery with a range of different materials, this class gives students an insight into the world of couture. The techniques taught in this class are used regularly in London, Paris and New York couture houses and are often seen on the catwalk. You will use a range of materials which will be applied in various techniques to create different effects.

With the guidance of our expert tutors you will be shown how to create a series of beautifully embroidered butterflies using couture materials from our archive collection. This class combines traditional embellishment and goldwork techniques within a contemporary design piece. The base of this piece is a black Silk Organza leaving you with a beautifully embroidered piece.

All of the materials you need for this class will be provided for you as part of your course experience. You are more than welcome to bring your own embroidery equipment if you would rather use your own materials but everything will be provided for you.

Accessibility

Our in person classes are taught in our school which is located upstairs in our studio. Unfortunately the building does not have lift access, so use of the stairs would be necessary.

Tutor Profiles

Our bespoke classes are taught be expert hand embroiderers who have worked in the couture industry for brands such as Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Dior, Valentino, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, YSL, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Schiaparelli, Lanvin and Burberry to name a few. The classes will cover the basics, insider tips and practical application making sure students are fully equipped to go on and apply what they have learned to their own garments and develop their own unique styles. Our tutors are work embroiderers first and tutors second which means they are able to give you a unique insight into the magical world of couture hand embroidery.
